Obverse: Within a toothed border round the rim, bust of young Queen Victoria, left, hair in a bun (replica of British penny). Legend: "VICTORIA D:G: BRITT:REG:F:D".

Reverse: Emblem of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Three-masted sailing ship with unfurled sails in Table Bay with Table Mountain behind. Three sea gulls to the left. Legend in large letters above: “VICTORIA & ALBERT” and below: “WATERFRONT”.

Notes: Reference: Hern's Handbook on Southern African Tokens, 632a, which states that the bronze varieties were used on the 'Penny Ferry' at the Waterfront.

The Victoria and Alfred harbour area of Cape Town was constructed, starting 1860. It is now a tourist attraction.
