Globe floating on clouds with stars and radiating lines around above. View of exhibition building and aother buildings below. Legend on a ribbon between the borders: "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE D'ANVERS 1894 (at the bottom on a fold) WERELDTENTOONSTELLING VAN (diagonal small) ANTWERPRN", with the coat of arms of Antwerp on a cartouche at the top. The Antwerp International Exhibition was a world's fair held in Antwerp, Belgium between 5 May and 5 November in 1894. The Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek had exhibits and was represented by Jonkheer Beelaerts van Blokland, the Minister Plenipotentiary of the Z.A.R. at The Hague. The highest prize was awarded to the Witwatersrand Chamber of Mines (group 5, class 15) for their mining exhibit.
Jules Baetes (1861-1937) was a Belgian sculptor and medallist from Antwerp.
