Obverse: View of Vryheid memorial monument. Legend on three concentric bands divided by the monument: “TER HERINNERING VAN BURGERS VAN VRYHEID DISTRICT DIE (outer) STIERVEN GEDURENDE DE BRIT-BOER OORLOG (middle) 1898 1900 (inner)" (In memory of the citizens of Vryheid District who died during the Anglo-Boer War 1898-1900)”.

On the uniface medal the dates differ: "1899-1902"

Reverse: Silver and white metal medal: Within a laurel wreath tied at the bottom: “VRYHEID (in an arc) / 1914”. Signed: “ALCOCK” at the foot to the right.

Silver medal stamped: "SILVER" at the top.

Pewter medal: Uniface.

Sometimes engraved on the reverse with initials / date.

Notes: This silver medal is attached to a fob chain.

The date: "1914" on the reverse is over some other date or maybe the same date but repositioned.

The medal commemorates the unveiling of the Anglo-Boer War Memorial Monument in Vryheid in 1914. The monument is located to the left of the main (south) entrance of the Nederduits Gereformeerde Moeder Kerk (Dutch Reformed Mother Church) in Vryheid, northern KwaZulu Natal. The monument records the deaths of 7 officers and 62 burgers (citizen soldiers).

The reason for the differing dates on the obverse is not known.
