In 1918 H.J. Klopper and others founded the Jong Zuid Afrika movement. The name of the organisation was soon changed to the Afrikaner Broederbond and Klopper was its first chairman until 1924. He was a leader in rise of the Afrikaner movement in the 1930s and the organiser of the Great Trek commemoration. He was later member of Parliament for Parys and Speaker of the House of Assembly. This medal was issued on the occasion of his retirement.
