Comes inside a personally addressed envelope with a 4c stamp commemorating 300th anniversary of Stellenbosch (1679-1979) postmarked: "STELLENBOSCH 1979.11.08". Both sides of the medal are seen through transparent plastic circular windows. On the back of the envelope, a certificate of authenticity from the United Nations. The envelope is in a cardboard holder with information about South Africa.
One of a set of 144 medals commissioned by the United Nations to mark its 30th anniversary. Each medal in the set is for a member nation. The set was issued at a rate of about two per month between 1976 and 1980 at a cost of $12.50 each.
The Diggers Fountain is in the Oppenheimer Gardens, Kimberley, established as a memorial to Sir Ernest Oppenheimer
