Obverse: Bare head of Kitchener, head turned slightly left, faint outline of shoulders below. Legend: "HORATIO.HERBERT.KITCHENER.BARON.KITCHENER.OF KHARTOVM. G.C.B. K.C.M.G". Rose at the foot.

Reverse: Royal coat of arms with motto: "HONI SOIT QVI MAL PENSE". In an arc at the top: "SOVTH AFRICA" and below that across: "MDCCCC". Signed at the foot: "R.BRYDEN.FECIT".

Notes: Robert Bryden (1865-1939) was a Scottish artist and sculptor. He was born at Coylton, Ayrshire. As a young man he studied Royal Society of Arts and Royal Academy in London. He returned to settle in Ayrshire where he became a prolific etcher but also produced works in a variety of media. His medallic portraits are not common.
