In the middle, a horizontal scroll inscribed: “1900”. Above this, a cameo of Queen Victoria, veiled, left, with legend: VICTORIA QUEEN AND EMPRESS". Below, and to each side, three cameos, each showing the bust of a bareheaded uniformed British general within an oval border. Below, Lord Roberts, front, with legend: “LORD ROBERTS V.C.”. To the left, General Buller, front, with legend: “SIR REDVERS BULLER V C”. To the right, General Kitchener, front, with legend: “LORD KITCHENER”. The three cameos are linked together by a ribbon below inscribed: “SOUTH” to the left of Roberts, and: “AFRICA” to the right.

Winged Victory flying right and looking backwards, trumpet horn in her left hand and an olive branch in her right. Below, an artillery piece and a pyramid of three rifles. Mountains behind. A blank exergue, except on the silver medal which has the maker's mark: "J.F." and Birmingham hallmarks for 1899-1900. Legend, above right: "VICTORY".
