Notes: The South African Military Academy was established on 1 April 1950. It is located in the town of Saldanha on the West Coast overlooking Saldanha Bay. Initially it provided officer training but is now open to any approved member in any branch of the South African Defence Force wishing to obtain academic qualifications (B.Mil and higher military degrees). It houses the Faculty of Military Science of the University of Stellenbosch.

The emblem is probably a rendition of the heraldic "Fleur de Lis".
