Obverse: Bareheaded half-length bust of King George V in vestments of the Order of the Garter, front turned slightly left, right hand on chest. Signed: "SOHO/1910" lower left on 45mm medals only. Legend on 45mm medal: "GEORGIVS. V. D: G: BRITT: OMN: REX. F: D: IND: IMP." Legend on 32mm medal: "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP:"

Reverse: On the left, laurel branch, imperial crown above and in front, entwined with ribbon from which hang four scrolls bearing the coat of arms of the uniting colonies. Only on the 45mm medal, colonies named on ribbon, top downwards: "CAPE COLONY", "ORANGE F. S.", "TRANSVAAL", "NATAL". To the left of that: "1910" diagonal, large letters. Signed below round rim: "SOHO S.I. Co. LONDON". On the right across: "TO / COMMEMORATE / THE UNION OF / SOUTH AFRICA / AND THE / OPENING OF THE / FIRST PARLIAMENT / BY H.R.H. THE DUKE / OF CONNAUGHT K.G. / (line) / VISCOUNT GLADSTONE / GENL. / (line) / GENL. BOTHA / FIRST UNION / PREMIER".
