The first Johannesburg Stock Exchange Marathon was held in 1903 between the cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria, a distance of 50 km. It was next held between 1936 and 1938 and was resuscitated again in 1978 and hes been held annually ever since. The name was changed in 1988 to the City2City Marathon.
