Notes: The Princess Christian's Army Nursing Reserve (PCANR) was formed in 1897 by Princess Christian, the third daughter of Queen Victoria. The unit saw active service during the Boer War. This particular cape badge, identified by the number 757 on the back, belonged to Sister Louisa Maria Hinton who enlisted from the Mill Road Infirmary, Liverpool. She was based at the No. 5 Stationary Hospital in Bloemfontein and was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with no clasps (the army viewed nurses as non-combatants not entitled to any clasps).
