Reverse: Upper right across: "SUID-AFRIKAANSE / GENOOTSKAP VIR / DIE BEVORDERING / VAN DIE WETENSKAP / (ornaments) / SOUTH AFRICAN / ASSOCIATION FOR / THE ADVANCEMENT / OF SCIENCE". Lower left, engraved on plaque: "C.J. REINECKE / 1996" with branches of protea of lily behind.

Notes: Comes inside a fitted blue case lined with white silk-like and blue velvet-like material. The recipients name is on a printed label on the outside if the lid.

The South African Association for the Advancement of Science was founded in 1902 and modeled on the equivalent British society. Bronze medals are awarded annually to one candidate at the masters level from each South African university.

Laidlaw 1385 is an example of an earlier medal
