On the central gold part, the emblem of the World Wildlife Fund - Giant Panda, front. Encircled copyright marks below: "C(left) R(right)". Below that in large letters: "WWF". At the foot: "1/2 oz AU 999.9".
On the outer silver rim, around on a banner above: "1961-2011" and below: "50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY". On left: "Ag 925". Signed on right: "MJS".

On the central gold part, depiction of the world globe centered on Africa. Signed" MJS" at the foot.
On the outer silver rim, around on a banner above: "FOR A LIVING PLANET" and below: "WORLD WIDE FUND FOR NATURE".

The medal was issued in a wooden case together the 2011 proof silver 2 Rand (crown sized) featuring the Blue Crane, South Africa's national bird. A privy mark showing Table Mountain was impressed on the obverse of the 2 Rand.
The impression was done at the top of Table Mountain at an inauguration ceremony. Hern records that 89 2 Rand were impressed with the privy mark. Because this medal was only released as part of the set, the mintage is also only 89.
