Obverse: Bareheaded bust of Paul Kruger in jacket, left. Legend: "SUID-AFRIKA (diamond stop) SOUTH AFRICA".

Reverse: Prancing springbok on ground, right, dividing date: "20 (left) 20 (right). Signed: "CLS" below right. Above left, within circle, Elephant left: "PMB" below. Legend above: "KRUGERRAND" and below: "FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER".

Notes: The gold Krugerrand was introduced in 1967. To mark the 50th anniversary, the silver Krugerrand was first produced in 2017.

The coin here is designated BU (brilliant uncirculated). Only the proof coins are made at the South African Mint. The BU coins are minted in the United States.

The obverse design is from the 19th century ZAR coinage designed by Otto Schultz of the Berlin Mint. The reverse design is by Coert Stynberg of the South African Mint and originally appeared on the SA Union silver 5 Shillings first struck in 1947.

The engraved countermark was commissioned by the Pietermaritzburg Numismatic Society. The elephant is the emblem of the society and comes from the original coat of arms of the City of Pietermaritzburg.
