Obverse: Shield showing the site plan of Modder "B" Gold Mine against a pebbled background. Soldier (left) and sailor (right) front and head turned to face each other. Ornamental ground below. Above, sword piercing: "RS", pebbled line below. Legend above: "WELCOME HOME", in the middle between star stops: "1914 (left) 1919 (right)" and at the bottom: "MODDER B (within quotes)".

Reverse: Blank. Copper button-hole attachment.

Notes: Modder "B" was a gold mine near Benoni in the Transvaal.

The theme of the badge is the same as the Johannesburg Peace medals (0025a and 0025b)
