The Federated Caledonian Society of South Africa was formed in 1918 to consolidate the activities of regional Scottish associations throughout the country.
Scottish gathering are held annually in South Africa. The first Royal gathering was held in 1932. The title "Royal" was discontinued in 1960 when South Africa became a republic.
