Ornate hatched background. Enamelled (Black, red) coat of arms of Doncaster with motto: "COMFORT ET LIESSE" on a garter around. Behind Royal standard (left), Union flag (right) and crossed rifles. Legend in a band around, above: "SOUTH . AFRICAN . WAR" an below between ornamental stops: "1900-01".

Doncaster is a town in South Yorkshire, England. The medal together with scroll conferring the freedom of the Borough of Doncaster were presented to returning volunteers on several occasions between 1902 and 1904. It is estimated (Hibbard, Hern) that about 80 medals were presented.
7023 Private W. Campney served during the Boer War with the 2nd Active Service Company of the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment. He was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with five clasps: Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, and South Africa 1902".
