It is uncertain where and by whom this engraved coin was made. It commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28th June 1919 which concluded the First World War. Tanga is located in the far north of the then colony of German East Africa. It was there that an invasion British troops was defeated of the outset of the war in November 1914. South African Imperial forces only arrived in East Africa in December 1915.
