Obverse: Coat of arms of Worcester on a shield, highlighted with red and black enamel bonded to a circular back-plate. At the bottom of the back-plate: "SALE BIRM" and stamped below: "H.B.S" and the Birmingham silver hallmarks date letter b (for 1901-2)

Reverse: Within a laurel wreath tied at the bottom, across: "PRESENTED (in an arc)/ BY THE / CITIZENS OF WORCESTER (in an arc) / TO / TR. L. MABERLEY (engraved) / IN RECOGNITION OF HIS / SERVICES WITH THE / WORCESTERSHIRE / IMPERIAL YEOMANRY / SOUTH AFRICAN WAR / 1899.1900.1901 (in an arc)".

Notes: Hibbard records two other varieties of this medal. He estimates that over 300 awards were made spread over several occasions.

According the the Queen's South Africa medal roll, Maberley was awarded the QSA with, Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal clasps. The roll in which he appears was for the 17th, 18th and 19th Companies of the 6th (Scots) Battalion Imperial Yeomanry. The roll record that he was transferred from the 5th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry. It can be assumed that he originally served with the 16th (Worcestershire) Company, 5th Battalion which was raised in 1900.
