Obverse: Draped female figure standing, front, scientific instruments on left ground. Naked man advancing from right holding rod, cast wheel on right ground. Blank excergue. Legend on a band above: "SCIENCE HAND IN HAND WITH LABOUR".

Reverse: Legend on a band: "INSTITUTE OF BRITISH FOUNDRYMEN . SOUTH AFRICAN BRANCH ." Interior blank for engraving. This medal: "A.H. GUY / 1955 MEDAL / AWARDED TO / H. HOLDSWORTH".

Notes: The Institute of British Foundrymen was established in 1904 and granted a Royal charter in 1921. It is now known as the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers.

The South African Branch was formed in 1939 which became the South African institute of Foundrymen in 1964.

A.H.Guy Medal is awarded annually for outstanding Service to the foundry industry. This is the highest South African award in the cast metals industry.

The recipient of this medal, Harry Holdsworth, went on the become the president of the Institute and a lectured named after him is given by the incumbent president at the Institute's annual AGM.
