Edge: Plain.

Obverse: Crowned and robed busts of the King and Queen, left. On the right across: “12 MAY / 1937”. Legend: “CORONATION OF KING GEORGE VI & QUEEN ELIZABETH”.

Reverse: Britannia standing on left, facing right, left arm extended holding a wreath, right hand holding British Union shield, trident and half wreath behind. Westminster Abbey in background on the right. On a plaque below: “CORONATION / 1937”.

Notes: The smaller medal (BHM 4353, similar) has an attached loop and red-white-blue ribbon. The date is missing on the obverse, and the plaque on the reverse reads: "A.D. 1937".

The reverse design was initially used on the coronation medal for King Edward VIII (BHM 4298). It was also used on another coronation medal for King George VI (Laidlaw 1290).
