Obverse: Labrador Retriever standing on ground, left. Signed: "KERBY & HUBER" below. Legend on a raised band: "PIETERMARITZBURG AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY".

Reverse: In an arc above: "2ND. (engraved) PRIZE AWARDED" then across: "TO / WM. BERRIMAN (engraved) / FOR / SPANIEL BITCH (engraved)".

Notes: Comes inside a fitted maroon case, lined on the inside with white silk and velvet. In gold, on the inside of the lid: "KERBY & HUBER / PIETERMARITZBURG".

Kerby and Huber were jewellers located at 191, Church Street, Pietermaritzburg. By 1898 the business had been renamed E G Kerby & Co.

The Pietermaritzburg Agricultural Society was formed in 1851 and on 23 December of that year hosted its first show. In 1902, its name was changed to the Agricultural Society of Natal and in 1904 the Society was granted Royal status by King Edward VII. At present, the Royal Show is held over 10 days from late May to early June, attracting around 220 000 visitors.
