|
Kimberley was the first town in South Africa to have electric street lighting and quite possibly the first in the southern hemisphere. On 2nd September 1892 the sixteen lamps were switched on.
The Koeberg Nuclear Power Station was commissioned about 100 years later and is the only nuclear power station in South Africa.
The Gold and Hard Asset Exchange was founded in Johannesburg in 1980, but didn't remain in business long. This medal and a similar one, Laidlaw 0487b, were attempts to sell silver bullion manufactured as medals.
