Three British soldiers, from different branches of the armed services, advancing to the right, passing an artillery piece. The first, on horseback carrying a lance. The second, a sailor holding a Union Jack standard in his left hand and a rifle in his right. The third, a kilted soldier from a Scottish regiment with sword drawn. They are being cheered by a fourth soldier standing behind the artillery piece and waving his hat marked: “CIV” (London City Imperial Volunteers). Above in a shallow arc: “1900”.
