Edge: Plain

Obverse: A kneeling soldier, his shield at his feet, presenting his sword to a seated winged angel holding a dove. At her feet, a child holding an olive branch. Above left, a quarter laurel wreath. Below, a ribbon: “PEACE”.

Reverse: Within a wreath of laurel (left) and a palm frond (right), a shield: “ENKELDOORN (in an arc) / S.R / . 1919 . (in an arc)”. Superimposed above, a banner: “TO COMMEMORATE THE / VICTORIOUS CONCLUSION / OF THE GREAT WAR”.

Notes: The design is similar to the Great War Peace medal from Umtali but the execution is crude.

Enkeldoorn (now Chihvu) is a small town 146 km south of Harare on the main road to Masvingo and South Africa. Founded by Boer pioneers, the settlement became an Afrikaner stronghold in a predominately English speaking Rhodesia.
