Edge: Plain. Gold medal stamped: "9CT". Silver medal stamped: "STER.SIL". The gold silver and bronze medals that come together in a case are all also stamped with the issue number. The medals here: "43".

Obverse: The silver and bronze medals have a central circular medallion with diameter 50 mm surrounded by crossed hatching extending out to the octagonal rim. The circular gold medal has a similar, but smaller, design and no cross hatching surround.

On the medallion: the emblem of the Natal Numismatic Society taken from the Natal coat of arms, pair of wildebeests galloping to the left on grassy plain with mountains behind. Legend on a raised pebbled band above: “THE NATAL NUMISMATIC SOCIETY” and below between stops: “DIE NATALSE NUMISMATIESE VERENIGING”.

Reverse: The silver and bronze medals have a central circular medallion with diameter 50 mm surrounded by crossed hatching extending out to the octagonal rim. The circular gold medal has a similar, but smaller, design and no cross hatching surround.

On the medallion: Across: “DURBAN (large, in an arc) / 1976 / JULIE – JULY / 5 – 10 / (diamond)”. Below that a shield with the numeral: “6” superimposed on a half laurel wreath. Legend on a raised pebbled band above: “S.A. NUMISMATIESE KONVENSIE” and below between stops: “S.A. NUMISMATIC CONVENTION”.

Notes: The proof-like gold silver and bronze medals medals come in a large, square, fitted case. Outside, dark blue, with gold lettering: “S.A. NUMISMATIESE KONVENSIE / S.A. NUMISMATIC CONVENTION / DURBAN/ 1976 / JULIE – JULY / 5 – 10” and below that a shield with the numeral: “6” superimposed on a half laurel wreath. Lined on the inside with white silk-like and blue velvet-like material.

The matt silver and bronze medals come individually in a similar smaller case.

It is reported that a medal was also made singly in 19CT gold.
