Obverse: Veiled and diademed bust of Queen Victoria, left. In an arc around the bust: “H.M. QUEEN (left) “VICTORIA (right)”. Royal Garter on a recessed band around, crown above, Royal arms below. Legend on the garter: “TO COMMEMORATE THE 60TH YEAR OF HER MAJESTY’S REIGN”

Reverse: Within an oak wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom, full coat of arms of the Z.A.Republic with motto: "EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT". In an arc above:“TRANSVAAL” and below: “SOUTH AFRICA”. Ribbons on the wreath: "1837 (left) 1897 (right). At the top, the British Royal arms. Maker's name at the foot: "CRUN BRO’S”.

Notes: This is the only medal that displays both the British Royal arms and the arms of the Z.A. Republic. Two years after Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee the countries were at war with each other.
