In the centre within a circular frame crowned at the top, diademed and veiled head of Queen Victoria, left, against a background of two crossed standards bearing Australian flag (left) and the Royal arms (right). In arcs below: “BRITISH / TRANSVAAL WAR / 1899-1900”.

Reverse:

In the centre, within a circular band, Saint George slaying the dragon seen on British sovereigns and: "1900" below truncation. This is superimposed on the cross of St George with stars on each arm. Within an outer decoration of laurel leaves, the legend: “SUCCESS TO 1ST AUST. IMPERIAL CONTINGENT”, divided into four parts by the arms of the cross.
