Obverse: Uniformed bust of Baden-Powell wearing hat, front. Legend on a raised band above: "THE HERO OF MAFEKING" and below between small flowers: "COLNL. BADEN POWELL"

Reverse: Across with Queen's crown at the top: "RELIEF / OF / MAFEKING / 1900".

Only on the first Medal: Legend above divided by the crown: "MAY (left) 18TH.(right)" and below: "BESIEGED 218 DAY". Signed: "SALE (left) BIRM (right)".

Notes: The second gilded medal is a trial piece made before the date of the relief of the town was known.
