Orange tree with horn left, right and bottom, similar to the OFS pattern penny of 1874. Signed: "W.M" below the truncation on the right. Legend left: "O.F.S. NUMISMATIC SOCIETY" and right between stops: "O.V.S. NUMISMATIESE VERENIGING".

Reverse:

Within a laurel wreath tied at the foot, springbok head, front, contained inside large letter: "V" with: "R.S.A." below. "FOUNDED (left obliquely down) 22.4.66 (across) STIGTING (right obliquely up)". Signed: "W.M" slightly up to the right from the foot. Silver medals stamped: ".925 SILVER" at the foot.

The medal was made in 1967 but commemorated the founding of the society the previous year
AM2 records that the obverse was designed by Dr. W.C. Annandale, President of the Society, and the reverse by D.C.G. Spannenberg, Treasurer.
The letter V on the reverse may be the roman numeral 5 to signify the fifth year of the Republic. Alternatively it may stand for: "Vrystaat (Free State)".
