Within a beaded border round the rim, bareheaded bust of Kruger, left (similar to Z.A.R.coinage but crude). Legend: "PAUL (left) KRÜGER (right)".

Reverse:

Within a beaded border round the rim, a 32-point compass rose with a circle and a dot in the middle surrounded by an oak wreath tied at the bottom.

This medal was probably made in Germany for sale in the Z.A.R. Most are found with remnants of solder on the reverse suggesting that pins were attached locally.
An similar example having the same reverse but with head of Queen Victoria is illustrated. In the UK these were probably used as gaming tokens.
