Obverse: Conjoined crowned and robed busts of the King and Queen, left. Legend on a raised band: "H.M. KING GEORGE VI (small cross) H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH (small cross)".

Reverse: Coat of arms of the Union of South Africa with antelope supporters and lion crest with motto: "EX UNITATE VIRES" on a ribbon below. Above across: "TO / COMMEMORATE / THE ROYAL VISIT / TO / SOUTH AFRICA / 1947 (divided by crest)".

Notes: The King and Queen and their two daughters, the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret toured Southern Africa in 1947. The purpose of the visit was to show Royal appreciation and gratitude for the sacrifices that South Africa, Southern Rhodesia and other Commonwealth countries had made during the Second World War.
