Major Cyril St. Clair Cameron served in South Africa as an officer with the Tasmanian Mounted Infantry. After the war he was promoted to lieutenant-colonel of the 26th Light Horse, Tasmanian Mounted Infantry. In 1916 he was gazetted honorary colonel of the 26th Light Horse, Tasmanian Mounted Infantry,
