Obverse: Within a horseshoe with the open end down, veiled and diademed old-head bust of Queen Victoria, left. In an arc under the bust: “1900” between ornaments. Legend above: “SECOND N.Z. CONTINGENT” and below between ornamental stars: “TRANSVAAL”.

Reverse: To the left a New Zealand Fern Tree frond and to the right a pole bearing the New Zealand flag. On a ribbon wrapped twice around the fern: “RANFURLY / GOVERNOR”. Below: “JANY. 1900”. Legend above: “NEW ZEALAND” and below: “WELLINGTON”.
