Reverse: At the top, The emblem of the International Society of Postmasters. Across: "OFFICIAL / COMMEMORATIVE ISSUE / Honouring the Afrikaans Language / October 10, 1975". Below that, separated by a line, the same in French: "EMISSION COMMEMORATIVE / OFFICIELLE / En L'Honneur de la langue afrikaans / Le 10 Octobre 1975".

Notes: Issued sealed behind transparent plastic on a card, together with a pamphlet, both inside a first day cover envelope from the International Society of Postmasters. The enveloped has a 5c commemorative stamp cancelled at Paarl on 10.10.1975, and a certificate of authenticity on the back.

The Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners (Society of True Afrikaners) was formed on 14 August 1875 in the town of Paarl by a group of eight Afrikaans speakers. The Afrikaans Language Monument was built there and inaugurated in 1975.

Casper Peter Hoogenhout was born in 1843 in Amsterdam, Netherlands and came to South Africa in 1860. He was a teacher, poet and author.

Reverend Stephanus Jacobus du Toit (1847-1911) was a South African nationalist, theologian, journalist and politician.
