Obverse: Bareheaded bust of Kruger, left (similar to Z.A.R. coinage), flanked by sprig of laurel (left) and oak (right). On a ribbon below: "1899 * 1902". On the arms of the cross against a blue enamel background: "VERWOND (top) MAAR (right) NIET MET (bottom) WONDEN (left)”

Reverse: Lion standing, right, on a blank scroll. On the arms of the cross against a blue enamel background: "WEGENS (top) DAPPER (right) VOLHARDING (bottom) VOR VRYHEID (left)".

Notes: The front and back inscriptions in Dutch together translate as, "Injured but not because of the wounds endured by the brave fighters for freedom".

Possibly made by Begeer of Holland. A similar medal (Laidlaw 0747) was made for President Steijn.
