Veiled and diademed head of Queen Victoria, left. Signed: “A.W” (indistinct) on the truncation. Legend: “VICTORIA, QUEEN AND EMPRESS” with a garland of roses, thistles and shamrocks at the foot.

In the middle, a horizontal scroll inscribed: “S.AFRICA”. Above this, the Royal coat of arms, and below, and to each side, three cameos, each showing the bust of a bareheaded uniformed British general within an oval border. Below, Lord Roberts, front, with legend: “LORD ROBERTS V.C.”. To the left, General White, slightly right, with legend: “SIR GEORGE WHITE V.C.” To the right, General Buller, slightly left, with legend: “SIR REDVERS BULLER V.C.” The three cameos are linked together by a ribbon below inscribed: “1899” to the left of Roberts, and: “1900” to the right.
