Edge: Plain.
Gold medal stamped: "9CT (springbok head) Y (for 1972) S.A.M". Also stamped with the issue number. This medal: "29".
Silver medal stamped: "(lion head) STG Y (for 1972) S.A.M".
Bronze medal unmarked.

Obverse: Head of President Burgers, left (as on the Burgers Pond from the ZAR coinage). Initials: “T.S.” below the bust. Legend above: “THOMAS FRANÇOIS BURGERS” and below: “1874 1974”.

Reverse: The emblem of the Transvaal Numismatic Society, on a concave field, a high-relief rendition of the Cullinan Diamond on which is superimposed miniatures of four gold coins that circulated in South Africa:
Top:..... Netherlands Ducat 1809 (trade coinage) - Reverse
Left:.... ZAR President Burgers Pond 1874 - Obverse
Right:....ZAR President Kruger Pond 1892-1900 - Obverse
Bottom:.. ZAR Veldponde 1902 - Obverse
Signed: “T.S.” below the diamond on the right

Notes: The set of three issued inside a fitted oblong red SA Mint case lettered in gold on the outside: “TRANSVAALSE NUMISMATIESE VERENIGING / TRANSVAAL NUMISMATIC SOCIETY / NATIONAL CONVENTION / NASIONALE KONVENSIE / CARLTON HOTEL JOHANNESBURG 6-13.4.74 / BURGERS CENTENARY EEUFEES”. The case lined on the inside with white silk marked: "SAM" and red velvet. The silver medal issued inside a blue case similarly inscribed.

The medal was made to commemorate centenary of the Burgers Pond and issued at the the 5th National Numismatic Convention hosted by the Transvaal Numismatic Society and held at the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg in 1974. For reasons unknown the medals were made two years before the occasion.

It is recorded (AM2) that the issue was limited to 150 sets of three medals. An unknown number were issued in silver and bronze.
