Obverse: On a scroll: “PRO PATRIA”; springbok head facing left above; laurel wreath behind.

Reverse: “Presented (in an arc) / by the / DURBAN / Recruiting / Committee ( in an arc)”.

Notes: These badges were presented to the nearest female relative of men who had actively served in WW1 and had been recruited from the Durban region. The presentation was made by the Durban Recruiting Committee and was held at the Durban Town Hall on 21 November 1918. The same medal but with a purple ribbon was presented for men who had been killed in action.
