Edge: Plain. Some gold medals engraved. This medal: "CLR. HOPE H. VERITY."

Obverse: Conjoined crowned busts of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, left, he robed. Legend: “KRONING * 12·5·1937 CORONATION”.

Reverse: Coat of arms of Johannesburg on a shield with motto: "FORTITER ET RECTE" on a ribbon below. On an arc above: "DONALD.W.MACKAY, MAYOR". Stamped: "15C" below. Legend: "CORONATION OF HIS MAJESTY KING GEORGE VI" with stop at the foot.

Notes: Silver medals were also made.

AM2 reports that 53 gold medals were made for presentation mostly to members of the Johannesburg City Council.

This medal was presented to Hope Holmes Verity, a counsellor at the time of the coronation and deputy mayor during the Second World War. The HH Verity Park in Parkhurst, established in 1937, is named after him. By profession he was a property appraiser.
