Form: Circular. White metal medal holed at 12 o’clock for a ring to a suspension bar for a blue corded ribbon with a brooch bar at the top. Bars ornate gilded pressed-metal, top bar reclining crowned lion crest.

Edge: Plain.

Obverse: Within a beaded border round the rim, veiled and diademed bust of the old Queen, left. Half laurel wreath below, left arm behind, right arm in front. Legend: “VICTORIA . REGINA”.

Reverse: Within a beaded border round the rim, crowned Royal arms surrounded by five roundels bearing arms of colonies: Australia (upperleft), New Zealand (lower left), India (bottom), Canada (lower right) and Cape Colony (upper right). Legend: “VICTORIA, QUEEN AND EMPRESS, 1837.1897, THE LONGEST AND MOST ILLUSTRIOUS REIGN ON RECORD”. Registration number: “RD. / 284223” at the foot.

Notes: The designs are similar to Laidlaw 542a but the legends differ and the medal is smaller
