Obverse: Within a wreath of ferns, steam engine travelling right, ground below. Legend above: "11.6.1902."

Reverse: Legend between ornaments: "PETONE RAILWAY WORKSHOPS" and circling within above: "PEACE" and below between stops: "DEMONSTRATION". In the middle, four stars representing the Southern Cross.

Notes: The Petone Railway Workshops were a government-owned maintenance and repair facility located in Petone near Wellington in New Zealand's North Island. It operated between 1876 and 1929.

The peace demonstration took place 11 days after the signing of the Treaty of Vereeniging on 31 May 1902.

A similar style of medal was made for the Addington Railway Workshops in 1919 for a peace demonstration marking the end of the First World War.
