The Dusi Canoe Marathon is the biggest canoeing event on the African continent, and one of the world's most popular river marathons, attracting between 1600 and 2000 paddlers. It is held in mid-February each year and covers roughly 120km, starting on the uMsindusi River that runs through Pietermaritzburg and finishing in the coastal city of Durban on the uMngeni River.
