Edge: Plain

Obverse: Coat of arms of Penarth with bear head crest, bear supporters and motto in Welsh: "CYNGHORI ER LLESIANT (council for good)".

Reverse: Across: "PEACE / DECLARED / 2ND. JUNE 1902 / (ornamental line) / PENARTH". Legend above: "SOUTH AFRICAN WAR" and below between floral stops: "CELEBRATIONS". Silver medal stamped with the maker's mark and Birmingham hallmarks for 1902.

Notes: Penarth is a seaside resort town 8.4 km south west from the city centre of the Welsh capital city of Cardiff.

The silver medal comes inside a fitted case of issue. It is believed to have been presented as a Boer War tribute medal to returning volunteers from Penarth although it is not recorded in Hibbard and is unnamed. One example is known and was sold twice by Dix Noonan Webb; once lot 690, 15 December 2000 for ₤420; and again lot 327, 23 September 2011 for ₤1,400.
