Official Royal Mint issue for presentation to dignitaries throughout the Commonwealth. Comes in a oblong red cardboard box with: "(crowned EIIR monogram) 1953 / CORONATION MEDAL (in an arc)" in black on the outside of the lid.
Medals for ladies were made with a bow-ribbon and came in a larger box.
Cecil Walter Thomas OBE, FRBS (1901-1976) was a British medallist, sculptor, and engraver.
