Within a raised reeded rim, coat of arms of the Bristish South Africa Company with motto: "JUSTICE COMMERCE FREEDOM". Legend: "THE BRITISH SOUTH AFRICA COMPANY". Leafy sprigs tied with a bow at the foot.

Within a raised reeded rim, a laurel wreath tied with a bow at the bottom with space inside for engraving. This medal engraved with ornaments: "B.R.C. / MARCH 1898 / Won by / W.K. THOMPSON / 90 PTS.

Comes in a blue oblong case lined with white silk and blue velvet. In gilt on the inside of the lid: "(crown) / Mappin & Webb / MANUFACTURING GOLDSMITHS / & SILVERSMITHS / LONDON, SHEFFIELD & / JOHANNESBURG"
B.R.C. is probably an acronym for the Bulawayo Rifle Club.
W.K. Thompson served with the Southern Rhodesia Volunteers during the Boer War and was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with three clasps.
