Within a toothed border round the rim. half-length figure of van Riebeeck, half right, in wig wearing cape against background of ships in Table Bay with Table Mountain behind. Signed: "WG" above the design on the right. Legend: "JAN VAN RIEBEECK 1618-1677".

Toothed border round the rim. Dutch Lion of Nassau within a crowned circular band: "NEDERL[ANDS]CHE OOST-INDISCHE [CO]MPAGNIE (ornament at the bottom)". Two seals obscure the inscription, on the left seal : "VOC" and on the right a sailing ship. Legend below: "JARE 300 YEARS".
