Obverse: Coat of Arms if the Union of South Africa with antelope supporters, lion crest and motto: "Ex Unitate Vires". On a raised pebbled band on left: "FOR LOYAL SERVICE" and on right between stops: "VIR TROUE DIENS".

Reverse: Fitting for a lapel. Stamped with a unique number. This badge: "29/833".

Notes: Issued to South African service men and women who had been discharged from active service during the war as a result of illness or wounds.
