The medal was struck only in 1970 and 500 were made for issue to the members of the society.
The medal comes in a blue velvet-like fitted case lined on the inside with red silk-like and red velvet-like material.
The Rhodesiana Society was an amateur historical society founded in 1953 as the Rhodesia Africana Society.In 1956 it began to publish a periodical, Rhodesiana, which ran for 40 volumes until 1979.
