Notes: After the First World War and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire the League of Nation granted Britain a mandate to administer the portion known as Palestine. This mandate was brought to an end by the UN General Assembly in Resolution 181 on 29 November 1947. The British withdrawal was finally completed in May 1948. On 14 May 1948 the Jewish People's Council proclaimed the establishment the State of Israel over the territory that had been Palestine. David Ben-Gurion was the first Prime Minister of Israel.
